Service Area: Yavapai County
Business Type: Funeral Home & Crematory
Business Information: George C. Ruffner, the revered pioneer sheriff of Yavapai County, acquired the establishment in a rather unorthodox manner. On the night of January 3, 1903, George Ruffner chose to spend the snowy evening playing faro at the Palace Saloon. (Gambling was legal in territorial times.) It was on that night that George Ruffner acquired the funeral home from Nevins, the undertaker at that time, with the winning hand.
The Ruffner family was fortunate to obtain Fred D. Wakelin, a well respected Arizona Funeral Director, to assume proprietary management in 1978. In October of 1997, Fred realized a long planned dream of finding property for another funeral chapel and crematory in Prescott Valley. Located on the corner of Navajo and Valley Roads, Arizona Wakelin Bradshaw Chapel and Bradshaw Crematory opened in November of 1998.
What we do: The mission of the funeral homes is to serve our communities in the manner in which we would want our own families served. We are charged with the responsibility of presenting to our client families their options and choices, thereby enabling them to make informed decisions. For what is done this week cannot be redone next week and will impact the family the rest of their lives.
