Betty and Emil Borgers met through a mutual friend in New York in May 1951, while Emil was a naval officer during the Korean War. Betty was a secretary in New Orleans. They were married on June 21, 1952, at Sacred Heart Church, New Orleans, La. Emil's brother, Fr. Charles Borgers, OMI, performed the ceremony. After their honeymoon, Emil served in Korea as executive officer on a minesweeper.
Emil worked for Shell Oil in New Orleans upon leaving the service. Four years later, he entered the computer business, in its infancy. The Borgers moved to Southern California, via Boston. Emil was a computer programmer and computer designer and moved into management. He helped found several computer ventures along the way. Eventually, he became a venture capitalist and retired in 1991.
Betty and Emil had four children, Michele, Brett, Christiane and Nikki. Betty was a full-time mother and homemaker. The Borgers moved to Prescott in 1992. Betty became an avid bowler while Emil volunteered at SCORE for 10 years and now facilitates history classes at OLLI Lifelong Learning,
