7/14/2012 10:00:00 PM
Charles Kent Bradway, "The Banker," passed away July 3, 2012, at the age of 81. Kent was born July 29, 1930, in Pasadena, Calif., to parents Muriel Ruth Reid Bradway and Williston Loggie Bradway.
Kent, as everyone knew him, graduated from Claremont Men's College in 1952, with a bachelor's degree in business. He was a member of the ROTC and enlisted in the Army as a Second Lieutenant after graduation. He served in Korea until the war ended in 1954.
He then was promoted to First Lieutenant, and received an honorable discharge from the military. He continued his pursuit of education, working on his master's degree at the University of Oklahoma until he moved to Phoenix in 1955. Kent worked in banking and mortgage loans until his retirement. He moved back to Tustin, Calif., to care for his mother until her death in 1996, making frequent trips to Laguna Beach to assist her. Laguna Beach truly was his second home.
Kent moved to Prescott in 1996, and from the time of his arrival, Kent exhibited an extraordinary commitment to the Prescott community. He was an active member of the Prescott Noon Lions Club for 15 years, the Treasurer for the past seven years, and worked on the club's newspaper project. In June 2012, he received the honors of a lifetime membership and Lion of the Year Award, of which he was extremely proud. He was a member and usher at the Prescott United Methodist Church and was active in the Stephen's Ministry of his church. He took these roles very seriously and they brought him great satisfaction in his life. His hobbies included golf, bowling, community service and spending time with his family.
Kent is preceded in death by his son David Bradway. Kent is survived by his aunt, Betty McDonald; sisters Shirley Bradway Billings and Beverly Beardslee (husband Chuck); and brother Neale (wife Stephanie); children John Kent Bradway (wife Lynn) and Ann Bradway Gemoll (husband Ron); grandchildren (John's) Megan Elizabeth Snyder (husband Kyle), Adriane Michelle, Andrew John, (David's) Anthony Marco, Andres David, Carlo Alexander and Emilio Nicholas, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A celebration of his life will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 4, 2012, at Prescott United Methodist Church, 505 W. Gurley St. In the spirit of Kent's community service, donations can be made to the Prescott Noon Lion's Club or Prescott United Methodist Church in his name.
Kent was a devoted son to his parents during their lives, and a loving uncle, brother, father, and grandfather to the rest of us. We will miss him greatly, and are tremendously proud of his life of service, faith, friendship, and generosity.
