Ethel Falkenberg Gillett, 100, passed peacefully at home in Prescott, Ariz., on July 6, 2012. She was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., to Captain Fritz and Jenny Marie Falkenberg, both immigrants from Norway.
Ethel spent the first 26 years of her life on Long Island, N.Y., except for the two years, from age 11-13) when her mother returned to Norway with the children. While there, they attended school and met all the grandparents and other relatives.
After high school, she started to work in the animated cartoon industry. In her mid 20s, she married and moved to southern California where she spent the next 40 years. Her daughter and granddaughter followed her into studio work and they were the first three-generation family in the industry. In 1977, she retired after 50 years in the studio biz and she moved to Prescott. She also did some world travel while here. She was a Symphony Guild Board member for 30 plus years and a past president of the group. She also did volunteer work.
Ethel leaves her daughter Shirley Ferrante of Prescott, Ariz.; granddaughter Terry-Lynn Swears and great granddaughter Lisa Nila, both of southern California; and numerous nieces, nephews and other loved ones.
She was predeceased by her parents, siblings, a son, a grandson and a granddaughter.
A celebration will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, July 28, 2012 at Unity Church, 145 S. Arizona St., Prescott, Ariz.
