Prescott boys hoops goes 1-2 at Ironwood Tournament
The Daily Courier

Prescott High's boys' basketball team concluded the Ironwood Thanksgiving Tournament late Wednesday afternoon with a 71-54 loss to Phoenix Sunnyslope.

After the setback, the Badgers' record dipped to 1-2 overall on the young 2012-13 season.

PHS trailed the Vikings 19-8 at the end of the first quarter Wednesday, and couldn't recover despite competing well in the second half.

Prescott, which fell behind 41-23 by halftime, outscored Sunnyslope 31-30 in the final 16 minutes.

"We got out to a very slow start, even though we played even basketball in the last three quarters," Badgers coach Adam Neely said. "We put ourselves in a real hole early on."

For the third straight game, senior swingman Jaran Hoover paced the Badgers offensively, as he scored 17 points. He added four rebounds, three assists and two steals.

Junior guard Keyshawn Liggins followed with 14 points, while junior center Cameron Gilbert chipped in with 13 points and five boards.

Through Prescott's first three contests, Hoover has scored a total of 67 points for a team-best scoring average of 22.3 points per game.

The Badgers will play their season home opener versus Paradise Valley at 7 p.m. next Tuesday at the PHS Dome.
