The Roughriders split their second straight ACCAC D-I doubleheader on Tuesday, falling to Arizona Western 2-1 in extra innings in Game 1 before blanking the Matadors 3-0 in the second contest in Yuma.
Yavapai is now 15-5 overall and 7-5 in conference play, while Western moved to 15-10 and 7-5.
In the opener, the score was tied at 1-1 at the end of seven innings, sending the game to extras.
After YC went down quietly in its half of the eighth, the Matadors plated the winning run in the bottom of the frame to claim the victory.
Roughriders starting pitcher Peter Lehnstrom was stellar in his six innings of action, scattering three hits and fanning five. Brandon Matthews came on in relief and took the hard-luck loss after surrendering the winning run.
Offensively, Yavapai mustered only three hits, including one apiece from Tim Arakawa, Kyle Toth and Matthews.
In Game 2, starter Matt Southard tossed a gem, garnering his second win of the season. He struck out three in six innings of work. Kamalu Kamoku pitched the final inning for the save.
At the plate, Krysthian Leal and Chris Burks had two hits apiece. Drew Turbin scored a pair of runs. Alexis Olmeda and Burks each collected an RBI.
YC travels to Pima (9-12-1, 6-6) on Saturday for another ACCAC twin bill. The first pitch is slated for noon.
