After Kyle Hood scored with a minute left in regulation to tie the game at 5-5, Colton Yellow Horn scored the game-winning goal 55 seconds into overtime to give the Allen Americans a 6-5 victory over the Arizona Sundogs on Saturday night at the Allen Event Center in Allen, Texas.
The Sundogs picked up a point despite the loss and took three of four possible standings points in their two-game set against the Americans.
Kyle Hood extended his point streak to seven games for the Sundogs with a shorthanded, breakaway goal in the second period.
After two totals were scored in the first forty minutes, the third period took a different turn with six goals in the first seven minutes and eight total in the frame.
Tyler Butler, David Nimmo, JP Chabot and Hood all scored for the Sundogs. Jim McKenzie, Bruce Graham, Yellow Horn, and Keith Johnson scored for Allen.
Jarrett Lukin opened up the scoring with the first period's only goal. Lukin's wrist shot from the left circle snuck just inside the post to give Americans a 1-0 lead less than three minutes into the game.
Hood's shorthanded goal in period two was his third of season and knotted the game at 1-1, 8 minutes into the frame.
Levente Szuper took the loss for Arizona with 37 saves. Brian Mahoney-Wilson put in a 23-save night for Allen to earn his first win of the season.
Both teams finished 1-for-5 on the man advantage. Butler's third period goal came on the power play to make it six straight games the Sundogs have registered a power play goal. It was also the 300th point of Butler's pro career.
The Sundogs continue their road trip on Wednesday when they head south to visit the Laredo Bucks.
