7 Prescott-area youth gymnasts claim either state or regional titles
Several Prescott-area girls have stood out in gymnastics during the first half of 2014, bringing home bragging rights for both the city and the state.

This past month, Madison Howe, 11, of Synergy Gymnastics was named the Most Outstanding Xcel Gymnast of the Year for Arizona USA Gymnastics following her winning performances at the Xcel State Meet in Glendale April 4, and the Region 1, Level 7 Xcel Regional Championships April 25 in Tucson.

Column: Injuries can be a pro tennis player's toughest opponent
A career in professional sports is normally short-lived for numerous reasons, but especially when it comes to plaguing injuries.

Marion Bartoli won Wimbledon last year at the age of 27 and you'd think, wow, she's at her peak and will now have a few years of possibly pulling down a few more majors. Then out of the blue she announces, "I've been pushed to the limits, and I just can't do it anymore." No doubt it was a tough decision and not taken easily, but when you have had fairly constant injuries that you try to play through with your hip, lower back, Achilles heal and shoulder, the wear and tear finally catches up with you.
