The Cougars opened the new season with a big win Tuesday night in Chino Valley.

Caitlyn Ballard led the effort with 22 points. Karen Valenzuela added 10 points.

"I'm very proud of the intensity they played with tonight," Chino head coach April Jelovic said. "Defensively we got much better throughout the game, anticipating passes, and really focusing on the ball. I'm really happy with that."

Chino Valley is home again next Tuesday to host Camp Verde (5:30 p.m.).
